A fresh red apple placed upon books

The Assessment Only route could be for you.

What you need to do:

  1. Speak to your current school and make sure that they are happy to support you. It will cost £2,500, payable in advance, and you will need a letter of support from your headteacher.
  2. Put together a portfolio of evidence demonstrating that you have met the Teachers’ Standards.
  3. Contact the Solent SCITT for an application form.

What happens next?

Once we have received your application form, one of our SCITT assessors will come to your school to meet you and will need to see evidence of your qualifications, school experience.

We will then conduct a pre-registration observation of you teaching one of your classes.

Why do we do this?

We need to be satisfied that you will be able to meet the rigorous Teachers’ Standards without any additional training.

If this is not the case, we would recommend that you complete a one-year Inital Teacher Training (ITT) course via The Solent SCITT.

Maximum timeframe from start to finish 12 weeks

Once we are happy that you will meet the standards you will have two further observations in week four and eight with the SCITT assessor and the subject assessor from your home school.

Your final observation will be with the SCITT moderator.

Provided you have met all the standards you will be awarded Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
